⚡ Quick summary (TL;DR)
KYC requires age 18: identity verification is the prerequisite for MPChat Pay financial services. You cannot complete KYC if you are under 18.
Card applications require age 18: applying for an MPChat card also has to meet the card issuer’s hard age rule, which is 18.
Parental consent cannot substitute: a parent or legal guardian’s consent cannot waive the 18 requirement above.
Chat still works under 18: sign-up, chat, friends, and groups are not blocked by this 18 rule. After you turn 18, go to Me → Identity verification and resubmit.
📖 Overview
MPChat uses different age rules for chat and for financial services. This article explains why both KYC and card applications require you to be 18, what you can still use under 18, and how to resubmit after you turn 18.
Below: the two age gates, a can-use / cannot-use table, then how to resubmit and the FAQ.
⚖️ The two age gates, separately
Direct answer: both KYC and card applications require age 18. The reasons differ; the outcome is the same — under 18 you cannot verify your identity or apply for a card.
1. Why does KYC require 18? Completing KYC is how you open MPChat Pay financial services. Under the User Agreement, MPChat Pay is available only to people aged 18 or over, so identity verification itself uses 18 as a hard gate.
2. Why do cards require 18? Applying for an MPChat card requires KYC first, and it also has to meet the card issuer’s cardholder age rule — also 18. Even if the in-app flow changes later, the issuer rule is not waived by parental consent.
⚠️ Parental consent cannot substitute
Chat and similar basics may follow the local age of majority with guardian consent. KYC, MPChat Pay, and MPChat Card all require you yourself to be 18. A parent or legal guardian’s consent cannot substitute for that requirement.
📊 What you can and cannot use under 18
The table compares “under 18” with “age 18+ and KYC1 complete”. Registered-tier limits shown in-app are the source of truth.
Feature | Under 18 | Age 18+ with KYC1 |
Sign-up, chat, friends, groups | Yes (must meet local age of majority) | Yes |
KYC identity verification | No | Yes |
Apply for an MPChat card | No | Yes |
Full Pay capabilities unlocked by KYC1 (higher limits, cards, etc.) | No | Yes |
If you only want to chat and add friends, you do not need KYC. To apply for a card or use full MPChat Pay capabilities, you must be 18 and complete KYC1. For the per-tier comparison see MPChat identity tiers: Registered and KYC1.
✅ After you turn 18, how to resubmit
Open the MPChat App and go to Me → Identity verification.
Follow the prompts to photograph a valid passport or government-issued ID, complete the selfie liveness check, then submit.
If a previous attempt was rejected because you were under 18, resubmit after you turn 18 — you do not need to close the account.
For the step-by-step flow see How to complete KYC1 in MPChat (OCR-assisted document verification). Name and date of birth must match the document.
❓ FAQ
Can a parent or guardian’s consent replace the age-18 requirement?
No. KYC, MPChat Pay, and MPChat Card require you yourself to be 18. A parent or legal guardian’s consent cannot substitute.
If I entered the wrong date of birth, will I be treated as under 18?
Yes. KYC reviews the date of birth on your document. A typed or OCR value that does not match the document will fail. Correct it on the review screen so it matches the document exactly, then resubmit.
I am already 18. Why is verification still failing?
Age is only one gate. More common causes are a blurry or expired document, a face that does not match the ID, or an unsupported country/region. See Common reasons for KYC verification failure.
I am 16. Can I purchase and use a card?
No. Under 18 you cannot complete KYC or apply for a card. See I am 16 years old now, can I purchase and use the card?.
