MPChat v1.7.0 delivers an immersive video experience: downloaded videos auto-loop silently in the chat list; entering full-screen triggers automatic audio playback. Wi-Fi downloads are fully automatic; cellular follows a smart data policy.
Chat Video: Muted Loop & Full-Screen Audio Playback (v1.7.0)
Two Auto-Play Modes
v1.7.0 introduces a two-stage auto-play system that covers the full experience from scrolling through chats to watching in full screen:
Mode 1: Muted loop in the chat list
Once a video message finishes downloading and scrolls into view, it automatically begins looping — muted, with no interaction required. It pauses automatically when it scrolls out of the visible area and resumes when you scroll back.
Mode 2: Audio playback in full screen
Tapping a video bubble opens it in full screen and starts playback with sound — automatically, from the beginning (or from the current loop position). Volume follows your system media volume. Tap to pause, and tap the back arrow to return to the chat list, where silent looping resumes.
Auto-Download Policy
Wi-Fi
On Wi-Fi, videos begin downloading automatically as their bubble enters the visible screen area. Once downloaded, they immediately start the muted loop. This applies to videos of any size (subject to available device storage).
Cellular (mobile data)
On cellular, only videos ≤ 100 MB auto-download. Videos larger than 100 MB require a manual tap to download. You can change this behavior in Mobile Data Auto-Download Video Setting.
Behavior Quick Reference
Scenario | Auto-play state | Sound | Trigger |
Chat list (video downloaded) | Silent loop | Muted | Video enters visible area |
Chat list (Wi-Fi, not downloaded) | Auto-loop after download | Muted | Enters view → auto-downloads → plays on complete |
Chat list (cellular, ≤100 MB, not downloaded) | Auto-loop after download | Muted | Enters view → auto-downloads → plays on complete |
Chat list (cellular, >100 MB, not downloaded) | No auto-download | — | Manual tap required to download |
Full screen | Plays with audio | On | Tap video bubble to enter full screen |
FAQ
Can I turn off auto-play in the chat list?
v1.7.0 does not include a standalone auto-play toggle for the chat list. To control data usage, you can disable "Auto-download videos on mobile data" in Me → General → Chat — videos over 100 MB on cellular will then not auto-download and therefore not auto-play.
Does the looping video constantly consume CPU or battery?
No. Playback only occurs while the video bubble is in the visible screen area. As soon as it scrolls out of view, playback pauses immediately. The performance and battery impact is minimal.
After exiting full screen, will the video continue looping?
Yes. Exiting full screen returns the video to its bubble in the chat list, where it continues the muted loop as long as it remains in the visible area.
