MPChat Passkey User Guide

1. What is a Passkey?

A passkey is a safer and more convenient way to sign in and verify sensitive actions. You can use your device’s fingerprint, Face ID/face recognition, or screen lock (PIN/pattern) to complete sign-in or verification without repeatedly entering a password.

2. Why do we recommend using a passkey?

  • More phishing-resistant: Passkeys are generally harder to steal via fake websites.

  • More convenient: One-tap verification on supported devices.

  • More secure: Relies on on-device security and system-level credential management.

Passkey availability and user experience may depend on your OS version, browser version, and whether system password/keychain syncing is enabled.

3. Do I need to set up a passkey?

In MPChat, passkeys are a mandatory security capability. Enabling a passkey improves account security and allows faster sign-in and verification in supported scenarios.

For actions such as enabling the wallet, applying for a card, withdrawing, transferring, sending red packets, and internal transfers, the system will require passkey verification.

4. Preparation before setting up a passkey

You can create a passkey on the following devices:

  • iOS devices running iOS 16 or later

  • Android devices running Android 14 or later

  • FIDO2-compliant USB security keys (USB-based security keys, also known as U2F keys, can be plugged into a USB port like a normal USB drive. As an extra layer of protection, they can also be used with iOS and Android smartphones.)

Note: If your iOS version is below 16, or if the built-in Passwords app has been removed, you may not be able to create a passkey. Upgrade to iOS 16 or later and reinstall the related system app from the App Store, then try again.

5. How do I create (enable) a passkey?

You can create a passkey in the MPChat app Security Center:

  1. Open the MPChat app.

  2. Go to: Profile/Me → Security Center → Passkey (Biometrics).

  3. Tap Add Passkey.

  4. Follow the prompts to use fingerprint/Face ID or screen lock to complete setup.

If you have not enabled the wallet yet, you can also create a passkey during the wallet activation flow.

6. How do I sign in with a passkey?

(1) If the passkey was created on this device, you can sign in without entering the account

  1. On the MPChat sign-in page, select Continue with passkey.

  2. Select the account you want to sign in with (if there is only one MPChat passkey on this device, you won’t need to choose).

  3. Verify with fingerprint/Face ID/screen lock to sign in successfully.

(2) If a passkey was created on this device or another device, entering the account will default to passkey verification

  1. Enter your phone number or email on the MPChat sign-in page.

  2. Tap sign in to enter the passkey verification page.

  3. Verify with fingerprint/Face ID/screen lock to sign in successfully.

  4. If you cannot verify the passkey for other reasons, you can choose Use another verification method to sign in.

7. How do I reset a passkey?

If your device is lost or you switch devices and cannot verify the old passkey, you will need to reset the passkey:

  1. On the passkey binding page, tap Reset Passkey, or tap Passkey unavailable on any page that requires passkey verification to start the reset.

  2. Prerequisite: You must have completed identity verification (KYC).

  3. You will need to complete face verification first.

  4. After face verification succeeds, bind a new passkey within 10 minutes to complete the reset. If you do not bind within 10 minutes, you must redo face verification.

  5. For account security, some withdrawal-related actions will be restricted for 24 hours after a passkey reset, but card spending will not be affected.

8. Security tips

  • Enable your phone’s screen lock and biometrics to prevent others from passing verification if they get your device.

  • Do not create passkeys on untrusted devices.

  • If you suspect your account has been compromised, change your password as soon as possible and contact official customer support.
