MPChat now reminds you when your verified identity document is approaching its expiry date, and lets you renew the document inside the app. This article explains when you will see the reminder, what happens once a document expires, and how to upload a fresh document in a few minutes.
Identity document expiry: how MPChat alerts you and how to renew
When MPChat will alert you
Once your KYC verification is approved, MPChat tracks the expiry date printed on the identity document you submitted. You will see two kinds of alerts:
Approaching expiry — within 30 days of the printed expiry date, an in-app banner and Profile-page badge will remind you to update your document. This reminder will not block any feature you currently have.
Already expired — once the document is past its printed expiry date, the alert is upgraded: a non-dismissible banner appears on the Profile and KYC screens, and certain functions are restricted (see below).
What is restricted while the document is expired
While your verified document is expired, MPChat applies a "safe-mode" that protects both you and the platform. You can still log in, chat, and use existing balances, but the following are paused until you update the document:
Applying for a new MPChat card.
Upgrading from KYC1 to KYC2.
Withdrawing fiat to external bank/exchange (limits may revert to pre-KYC level).
Some higher-tier perks tied to KYC2 status.
Existing virtual cards, top-ups, in-app transfers, and chat features continue to work as normal. Once you submit a new valid document and it is approved, the restrictions are lifted automatically.
How to renew your identity document
The renewal flow uses the same simplified v1.6.0 KYC pipeline — most fields are pre-filled by OCR from the new document photo, so you only need to confirm and submit. Steps:
Open MPChat, then go to Profile → Identity Verification (or tap the Update Document link in the expiry banner).
Tap Update Identity Document. You will be guided to retake or upload a clear photo of your current valid passport / ID.
OCR auto-extracts the document number, name, date of birth, country, and expiry date. Review every field carefully — you can correct any mis-read on the same screen.
Confirm with Passkey or your standard security verification, then submit.
Most renewals are reviewed within minutes. You will receive an in-app message and a system notification once the new document is approved.
Tips for a smooth renewal
Use the same document type that originally passed KYC, unless the original type has changed (for example, a renewed passport replacing the previous one).
Make sure all four corners of the document are inside the photo and the text is sharp — blurry images are the most common rejection reason.
Take the photo on a contrasting background (a dark table works well) so OCR can find the document edges.
If your name on the new document is different from the old one (for example, after marriage), submit the renewal as soon as possible and contact support to keep your transaction history connected.
Frequently asked questions
I just received the "approaching expiry" reminder. Do I need to act today?
No. You have up to 30 days. We recommend renewing within 7 days to avoid landing in restricted mode if review takes longer than expected.
My document already expired and I cannot apply for a card. How fast can I unlock?
Submit the renewal flow above. Most documents are auto-reviewed within minutes; complex cases may take up to 1 business day. Once approved, all features unlock immediately.
Will my KYC tier reset when I renew the document?
No. Updating the document keeps your existing KYC1 / KYC2 status. The tier is only re-evaluated if the new document fails verification.
What if my document type itself is no longer valid?
Use a different document type from the supported list (passport / ID card / residence permit, depending on your country). The supported list is shown on the renewal screen.
