Why is the USD shown 0.2% lower than my USDT deposit? (USDT/USD = 0.998 explained)

Your USD wallet balance displays USDT at 0.998 — 100 USDT shows as 99.8 USD. Display rule, not a fee. USDT withdrawals are settled by USDT amount.

Short answer: When you deposit USDT to your MPChat wallet, the system converts it to USD at a fixed rate of USDT/USD = 0.998 for the "Total Assets" display. For example, depositing 100 USDT shows as 99.8 USD. This is a display convention — not a fee, not a loss, and nothing is deducted from your balance. Your underlying USDT balance is unchanged, and USDT withdrawals are still settled by your USDT amount.

🎯 What this article answers

If your question is any of the following, this article is the answer:

  • I deposited 100 USDT but my wallet only shows 99.8 USD — is something missing / shrinking / being taken?

  • What is the USDT to USD exchange rate / conversion ratio at deposit? Why isn't it 1:1?

  • The USD total balance doesn't match the USDT I deposited — is that normal?

  • Was I charged a deposit fee, platform fee, or any kind of loss when depositing USDT?

📖 The conversion rule

MPChat wallets always show "Total Assets" in USD as the base currency. Whenever you deposit USDT (via TRC20 on-chain or Binance Pay), the system converts USDT to USD using this fixed rate before crediting the wallet:

USDT/USD = 0.998 — meaning 1 USDT is shown as 0.998 USD.

🧮 Formula and worked examples

⚠️ When this article does NOT apply

  • Deposit hasn't arrived (still confirming on-chain, network congestion) → see How long does a crypto deposit take to arrive?

  • On-chain network fees were deducted at the sending side (you sent 100 USDT but only ~99.x left the source wallet): this is an external network fee outside of MPChat. Please check the actual sent amount on the sending side.

  • The gap is larger than 0.2% (e.g. 100 USDT shows less than 99.8 USD) → please contact support.

❓ FAQ

Q1: Is the 0.2% gap a fee? Did I lose anything?

No, it is not a fee, not a loss, and nothing is deducted. Your USDT balance is unchanged — the wallet simply renders it as USD in the "Total Assets" view. MPChat does not charge a deposit fee.

Q2: Which amount is used when I spend with MPCard or withdraw?

  • MPCard USD payments: settled against the USD amount shown in Total Assets. Depositing 100 USDT gives you 99.8 USD of card spending power.

  • USDT withdrawal / transfer-out: settled by the actual USDT amount in your account. The 0.998 rate is NOT applied again on withdrawal. Depositing 100 USDT means you can still withdraw 100 USDT.

  • In-wallet swaps: based on the actual balance of the corresponding token in your wallet.

Q3: Will this rate change in the future?

It is fixed at 0.998 for the current period and will not move with short-term USDT market fluctuations (e.g. 0.999, 1.001). Any future change will be announced both in-app and in this Help Center.

Q4: Why isn't it 1:1? Other platforms show 1:1.

1:1 is a simplified display some platforms use, but it does not mean USDT literally equals USD. USDT is a USD stablecoin issued by Tether and trades within roughly 0.999–1.001 against USD on secondary markets. MPChat uses 0.998 to give "USD Total Assets" a stable, conservative, predictable display rate.

Q5: Does the gap grow with larger deposits?

The gap is fixed at 0.2% in percentage terms, so the absolute value scales: 0.2 USD for a 100 USDT deposit, 20 USD for a 10,000 USDT deposit. Splitting one large deposit into smaller ones produces the same total gap percentage — there is no penalty for either pattern.
