⚡ Quick summary (TL;DR)
Self-freeze vs risk freeze, whether unfreeze is possible, conditions, and how freezes break auto-renewal charges.
Keep egress region, billing address, and card details aligned; leave a balance buffer; do not rapid-retry payments.
This guide is for MPChat Pay & MPCard (Cloud / Flash / Boundless).
📖 Overview
For novices: When the card shows "frozen", most users are most concerned about whether it can be restored. This article explains freezing types and thawing methods in a question-and-answer format.
Is the freeze permanent?
no. There are only two situations where a card can be frozen, neither of which is permanent:
User-initiated freezing: If you actively click "Freeze" in the app (for example, you are worried about the leakage of card information and do not use it temporarily), you can unfreeze it at any time in the app.
CVV risk-control freeze: 3 wrong CVV entries within 24 hours trigger an automatic issuer freeze to prevent theft. You cannot unfreeze this yourself. Contact MPChat official in-app support; support sends a letter to the issuer requesting unfreeze; the issuer reviews and confirms, then lifts the freeze (this takes time — it is not instant).
Except for the above two situations, the card will not be frozen. Insufficient balance will only lead to a single transaction failure/rejection, but will not lead to card freezing; card cancellation is only triggered by the user's active operation in the app and has nothing to do with the reason for freezing. For details, please refer to the "Card Consumption, Chargeback Prevention, Card Freezing and Card Cancellation Guide".
What causes freezing?
Reason | Description | Can you defrost yourself |
User actively freezes | Click "Freeze" in the App | Yes, it can be unfrozen in the App |
3 wrong CVV entries within 24 hours | Automatic issuer risk-control freeze to prevent theft | Not self-service; contact official support to send a letter to the issuer, then wait for issuer confirmation |
How to defrost by yourself?
If the user actively freezes the card: open MPChat → "Card" → enter the card details page → click "Unfreeze" to restore immediately without waiting or customer service intervention.
If the freeze was triggered by wrong CVV entries: there is no in-App self-service unfreeze. Follow the next section — contact support to send a letter to the issuer, then wait for issuer confirmation.
For detailed steps, please refer to the "Guide to Card Freezing, Unfreezing and Account Appeals".
How to contact customer service to unfreeze CVV risk control freeze?
A CVV risk-control freeze cannot be lifted in the App. It goes through the issuer unfreeze process and is not instant. Follow these steps:
Contact MPChat official in-app support and provide: registered email / UID, last four digits of the card, and when the freeze happened.
After verifying your identity, support sends a letter to the issuer requesting unfreeze.
The issuer reviews and confirms, then lifts the freeze. Wait until confirmation; the card cannot be used in the meantime.
Do not keep retrying a wrong CVV, and do not submit multiple unfreeze requests in a short time.
What happens during the freeze?
Unable to spend: new transactions will be rejected.
Authorization may still be liquidated: see "Special Instructions on "Abnormal Bills" for Cross-Border Consumption".
How to prevent being frozen again?
When checking the card number/CVV, check it in the app first to avoid repeatedly manually entering the wrong number to trigger risk control.
When the card is not in use temporarily, actively freeze it in the app instead of leaving it alone.
Insufficient balance will not cause the card to be frozen, but will result in transaction failure/rejection of payment; please leave a sufficient balance (amount + handling fee + buffer) before consumption.

💬 Still having trouble?
Do not retry payments rapidly (risk systems may cool you down). Screenshot the error (mask card number & CVV), then tap the message icon in MPChat for 1:1 support.
Need an MPCard? Apply inside the MPChat App — a virtual card is usually ready in about a minute.
