Scanning an on-chain address: what happens, and why only Tron (TRC20) works

Scanning a valid Tron (TRC20) address takes you straight to the withdrawal page with the address filled in. Other networks are flagged and cannot continue — get a TRC20 address instead.

⚡ Quick summary (TL;DR)

  • Where to scan: both the plus button in chat and the withdrawal page can scan, and an on-chain address is recognized automatically.

  • On success: a valid Tron (TRC20) address takes you to the withdrawal page with the address pre-filled.

  • Unsupported networks: anything that is not Tron (TRC20) is flagged and you cannot continue.

  • How to fix it: go back to the deposit page on the other platform, switch the network to TRC20, and copy the new address.

📖 Overview

Besides adding friends and payment QR codes, Scan now also recognizes on-chain wallet addresses. This article covers what happens on success, why some scanned addresses cannot be used, and how to get the right one.

📷 What happens after a scan

  1. Open the scanner from the plus button in chat or from the withdrawal page.

  2. Point it at the receiving-address QR code from the other platform or wallet.

  3. Once a valid Tron (TRC20) address is recognized you land on the withdrawal page with the address filled in; you only enter the amount.

⚠️ Why a scanned address may not work

MPChat currently supports USDT withdrawals on Tron (TRC20) only. If the scanned address belongs to another network (for example Ethereum ERC20 or BSC), the page flags it and will not continue — this prevents you sending funds somewhere unrecoverable.

  1. Open the USDT deposit page on the other platform (exchange or wallet).

  2. Change the network to TRC20 (some platforms call it Tron).

  3. Copy or scan the newly generated TRC20 address, then return to MPChat to withdraw.

⚠️ Wrong network means unrecoverable funds

Confirm both the address and the network are TRC20 before withdrawing. Once funds go on-chain on the wrong network they cannot be recovered or returned.

❓ FAQ

What if the address is wrong after scanning?

Before you submit you can edit or clear the field on the withdrawal page. After submission, once the funds are on-chain, they cannot be recovered.

Why was my QR code not recognized as an address?

Only QR codes that match an on-chain address format are recognized. If the code contains a URL or other content, it will not open the withdrawal page. Make sure you are scanning the receiving-address QR from the other platform.

Do I need an on-chain address to send to an MPChat friend?

No. Sending to an MPChat friend is an in-app transfer: no blockchain, no network fee. On-chain addresses are only needed for withdrawals to external addresses.
