How to Get a Refund for a "Settled" Transaction

How to get a refund after a card transaction has settled? Learn why you need to contact the merchant and how refunds appear in your transaction history.

Updated today

This article explains what "Settled" means and how to properly initiate a refund.

📖 Overview

"Settled" means the card transaction has been successfully cleared and funds have already been transferred to the merchant. To get a refund, follow the steps below.

📞 Refund Process: Contact the Merchant

Since funds have already moved from the platform to the merchant, MPChat cannot initiate the refund on your behalf. Please:

  1. Locate the order number in your confirmation email or merchant account.

  2. Contact the merchant through their official channel (support email, website chat, or app).

  3. Provide the order number and reason for refund.

  4. Wait for the merchant to review and initiate the refund.

📥 What Happens After the Refund Arrives?

Once the merchant processes the refund:

  • A new "Consumption Refund" transaction entry appears on your card.

  • The refund amount returns to your card's available balance.

  • The original "Settled" transaction remains as a historical record.

⚠️ Important Reminders

  • Keep the order number and merchant contact details for tracking.

  • Refund processing time varies by merchant—from a few hours to several weeks.

  • If the merchant refuses or the refund never arrives, contact MPChat support to file a dispute.
