Applicability: LINE Pay payments are available only in Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand, and it accepts Visa / Mastercard / JCB cards. A foreign-issued Visa card (including MPChat) may register successfully, but three conditions usually apply: (1) the card has 3DS online verification enabled; (2) the card is in your own name; (3) you use the regional version of LINE (e.g. the Taiwan version provides LINE Pay). Final acceptance depends on the issuer and LINE Pay risk checks.
Overview
This guide explains how to register your MPChat card to LINE Pay for payments in Taiwan/Japan/Thailand. It is for users who:
frequently pay in Taiwan/Japan/Thailand and want to use LINE Pay (QR or online)
hold an MPChat card and want to try linking it to an overseas wallet
Before you start
Regional LINE app: LINE Pay is enabled by region, so confirm your LINE account is in a supported region (e.g. Taiwan).
Enable 3DS: make sure your MPChat card has online transactions and 3DS verification enabled (OTP is usually required during linking).
Own-name card: LINE Pay requires the card to be in the cardholder's own name; do not use someone else's card.
Card details: prepare card number, expiry, and CVV. See How do I view the full card number and expiration date?
How to register your MPChat card in LINE Pay
Open LINE, go to the Wallet tab, and tap LINE Pay at the top.
On the LINE Pay home, choose Register credit card / Add card.
Scan or manually enter MPChat card number, expiry, and CVV.
Complete 3DS (SMS/email OTP) verification when prompted.
After verification, the card appears as an available LINE Pay payment method.
Select it at LINE Pay merchants or online checkout.
Troubleshooting
Cannot register / declined: usually foreign-card risk control or 3DS not enabled. Confirm online transactions + 3DS are on and use a supported regional LINE.
No OTP received: check network and spam filters and retry; contact your issuer to confirm 3DS status if needed.
Linked but payment fails: check balance, per-transaction limits, and merchant restrictions. See MPChat card limits and fees.
Expiry format issue: enter expiry as MM/YY. See validity period format guidance.

Q3: Can I link someone else's card?
