This guide walks you through every step of adding friends from your phone contacts on MPChat — granting permission, finding people already on MPChat, inviting non-users via SMS, and sharing your own profile.
How to Add Friends from Your Phone Contacts on MPChat
Where to find Phone Contacts
Open MPChat and tap Contacts → Add Friends → Phone Contacts. The first time you visit, an onboarding tip appears once and then dismisses automatically.
The very first time you tap Phone Contacts, MPChat asks permission to access your phone's address book. This is required to match contacts between your phone and MPChat users.
The three sections of the Phone Contacts page
Once permission is granted, the page is organized into three modules:
1. Contacts on MPChat
Phone numbers from your address book that match a registered MPChat user. Each entry shows the MPChat avatar, the contact name from your phone, and the user's MPChat display name. Tap Add Friend (or any part of the row) to enter the user profile and send a friend request.
If the recipient has friend verification enabled, the button changes to Pending after sending.
If verification is off, the friend is added immediately and the row disappears from this list.
2. Invite to Join MPChat
Phone contacts who are not yet on MPChat. Tap Invite SMS to send a pre-filled SMS containing your personal H5 invite link plus a short promo message. When the recipient installs and registers, an invite relationship is created automatically — you can earn commission rewards once they apply for a card and start spending. See How to Invite Phone Contacts to MPChat via SMS for the full flow.
3. Share My Profile
Tap to open your phone's native share sheet and send your MPChat profile QR code anywhere — exactly the same as Profile → My QR Code → Share.
How contacts are sorted
Within each section, contacts are sorted A–Z by the first letter (or first-character pinyin for Chinese names), matching your phone's native sort order. Long lists scroll vertically.
Privacy and your data
We take your contacts seriously:
Contact avatars fetched from your phone are cached locally on your device only and never uploaded to our servers.
Phone numbers are matched server-side only to find MPChat users, and we do not retain your full address book.
You can revoke contact access in your phone's system settings at any time. Read Why MPChat Needs Contact Access and How to Manage It for details.
What you'll see when there's nothing to add
The page handles three empty scenarios:
No MPChat friends to add but invitable phone contacts exist → a top banner reads "No friends to add — invite your phone contacts to MPChat and play together!"
You have MPChat contacts but no invitable phone contacts → the "Invite to Join MPChat" section is hidden.
Neither → empty state: "No contacts available to add."
Notification when a contact joins MPChat
If you have contact access enabled, you will be notified when one of your phone contacts registers a new MPChat account, so you can quickly say hi:
MPChat Notification
A friend from your phone contacts has joined MPChat! Go say hi~
Tapping the notification opens the new user's profile in MPChat.
