What to Do About Unknown or Automatic Charges? (Audit & Blocking Guide)

Updated over a week ago

If you have the following concerns:

  • "What should I do if money is being automatically deducted from my card?"

  • "How can I block a merchant's automatic charges?"

  • "How do I prevent further charges from an automatic subscription I forgot to cancel?"

Don't panic. You can follow this three-step process—"Audit -> Mitigate -> Resolve"—to identify the source and stop the charges effectively:

Step 1: Identify the Source (Self-Audit)

If you receive a charge notification or have doubts about a transaction, first identify which merchant initiated it:

  1. Go to the "Card" page in the App and find the transaction list under the relevant card.

  2. Tap the specific transaction you wish to investigate to enter the "Details" page.

  3. Look for the "Channel" field. This will clearly display the specific merchant or platform name (e.g., Apple Subscription, GPT Charge, etc.).

Step 2: Emergency Mitigation (Freeze Card in App)

Once you confirm it is a forgotten subscription or an unwanted charge, we recommend blocking the payment immediately within the MPChat App to prevent further loss of funds.

  • Path: Go to the "Card" page > Select the card > Tap "Freeze."

  • 💡 Note: Freezing is completely free and takes effect immediately. Once frozen, no merchant will be able to successfully charge the card, effectively blocking any automatic payments.

Step 3: Resolve the Root Cause (Cancel Subscription via Merchant)

Please note that freezing the card only blocks the payment at the source. To avoid future complications, you must still visit the merchant's platform (e.g., Apple ID Settings, ChatGPT Website, Netflix Account Center), find "Subscription Management," and manually cancel the recurring plan.

Repeated payment failures due to "insufficient balance" will trigger the issuing system's risk control penalties. As a result, the issuing bank will charge you an additional "Decline Fee" (Transaction Failure Fee).
