Why is my card unable to be used at a specific merchant?

Updated over a month ago

If your card status is normal and you have sufficient balance, but the transaction is still declined by a specific merchant, it may be due to the following restrictions:

Physical Card Required:

  • Common Failure Scenarios: Hotel check-in deposits, car rental pickups.

  • Reason: These merchants usually require customers to present a physical card with their name printed on it for pre-authorization and do not accept virtual cards or Apple Pay. Currently, MPChat does not offer physical cards and cannot support these scenarios.

Card Type and Merchant Channel Mismatch:

  • US Advantage Card is Mastercard; Asia Advantage/Business Cards are Visa.

  • Please check if the merchant supports your card brand (e.g., Costco US stores only accept Visa).

Billing Address Verification (AVS) Failure:

  • Some online merchants (especially cross-border e-commerce) strictly verify the "Billing Address."

  • Troubleshooting: Please ensure that the Billing Address you enter at the merchant matches the billing address displayed in the MPChat App exactly.

Merchant Category Code (MCC) Restrictions:

  • MPChat prohibits transactions at high-risk merchants such as gambling, adult entertainment, and illegal trading platforms; the system will automatically block these.
